Carolina Wave Project
February 24th - March 1st
Speedbird Aviation will host the 2008 North Carolina Mountain Wave Camp. There will be 2 wave windows around Mt. Mitchell(35-44N/82-14W) and Grandfather Mountain (36-05N/81-44W) each with a 4 NM radius from their respective points for glider pilots to fly in mountain wave up to FL240 (24,000MSL). Atlanta Center will allow for only one window to be open each day so participating pilots must choose as a consensus which window to have open based on wind conditions.
We will be towing out of the Marion Shiflet Airport (9A9) and Foothills Regional Airport (KMRN).
Any glider pilot interested in participating should fill out and return the form below by either fax, email, or snail mail. Entry fees may be paid by cash, check, or credit card.
